New Transfer Student Guide: 10 Things You Need to Know
- Print out Dean Ozment’s welcome letters and use them as a formal check-list to prepare for course enrollment.
- Learn the College Deadlines (see the calendar) and pay attention to them. Verify your course enrollments BEFORE the drop deadline.
- Fulfill any remaining area requirements, especially the First Writing and Foreign Language requirements, as soon as possible. Once you matriculate, all remaining general education requirements must be completed here.
- Get to know your instructors and your Academic Dean (Elizabeth Ozment, 204 Monroe Hall, 924-3351). Make use of your professors’ office hours and introduce yourself.
- You may not have an extra semester to complete a second major. You may finish your degree during Summer Session, January-term, or part-time enrollment if you need to do so.
- See Dean Ozment if you are a third-year student and are unable to declare your major within the first week of the semester.
- Get off to a head start by attending one or more Summer Session terms at the University of Virginia this year.
- Log into Collab in order to locate your course syllabi and required course materials.
- Don’t repeat courses for which you have already received credit unless advised to do so by the Director of Undergraduate Programs or Dean Ozment.
- Second-year students will be assigned an advisor; third-year students need to declare a major upon arrival and will then be assigned an advisor in their major.
