Key Steps

  1. Request that your prior school send an official transcript to the UVA Office of Undergraduate Admissions as soon as possible after your final grades are posted for your last Spring or Fall semester.

  2. If you are enrolled in a Summer or Winter term at your prior school after your last regular semester, request that the school send an official transcript to the UVA College of Arts & Sciences (not UVA Admissions) or [email protected] once your final grades are posted.

  3. Credit evaluations are completed May–July for Fall transfer students and in early January for Spring transfer students. You will receive notification when your evaluation is completed.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will I see how my credit has transferred?

After you pay your tuition deposit and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions receives your final official transcript, our team will evaluate your transcripts and post the credit as quickly as possible to your SIS account. For Fall transfer students, credit evaluation begins in May and continues through late July.  For Spring transfer students, evaluation is done in early January. We cannot expedite your evaluation or perform credit evaluations via email or over the phone.

How can I tell how my credits will count toward my requirements at UVA?

The online transfer credit database shows the UVA equivalents for most courses offered at Virginia Community College System schools and many courses from other colleges and universities in the U.S. You can use this database for reference to determine how your credits will apply toward requirements at UVA.

What if my college or courses are not in the online database?

It is not always possible to determine exactly how your prior coursework will count toward UVA’s requirements until your evaluation is complete. In general, courses from accredited US colleges and universities are eligible to transfer at least for elective credit, if an analogous subject is taught at UVA. Wherever possible, coursework is evaluated to transfer and count toward general education requirements.

My evaluation is complete, and I have questions about how my courses have transferred. Who can I talk to?

Email [email protected]. Please note the specific courses, including the subject and course number, in your message.

I would like to have some of my courses re-evaluated. What do I do?

Send copies of the syllabus for each course you would like reviewed to [email protected] with the subject: “Re-evaluation Request.” List the specific courses, including subject and course number, in your message. We process these requests in the order they are received, beginning in August for Fall transfer students.
