Taking a Gap Year before Matriculating at UVA
Sometimes students are accepted at UVA but wish to defer their admission to take a “gap year” between graduating from high school and starting at UVA. Students who are accepted at UVA and wish to defer their admission while taking a “gap year” must make that request to the Office of Admission.
The College has a few policies that apply to students who take a gap year. Such students:
may not matriculate at another college or university or they will forfeit admission
may bring in no more than 6 credits per semester
are not guaranteed that the College of A&S will accept the credit earned
may not complete general education requirements at another school
