Headshot of Shilpa Dave

As an advisor, I am dedicated to understanding students' goals and dreams, learning about their personal backgrounds, and working with them through their college journey. I deeply value the diverse perspectives students bring to college life and support their unique paths to success.

My advising approach is holistic and grounded in a commitment to a broad liberal arts curriculum that fosters intellectual curiosity and development for all my students. My role as an advisor is enriched by my teaching and scholarship in media and cultural studies, allowing me to mentor students across various interests and disciplines.

During my time at UVA, I've taught courses such as "Racial Borders and American Film," "Asian American Media Cultures," and Engagement seminars like "Origin Stories: Identity, Migration, and Homelands" and “Women and Graphic Novels.” I am an advocate for the arts, particularly movies and theater, and I'm an avid sports fan.
