Academic advising transformed my life as an undergraduate, inspiring me to pursue graduate studies at UVA—a path I never imagined when I started college. After earning my Ph.D., I spent over twenty rewarding years teaching political science and directing the general education program at a small liberal arts college before returning to UVA as an Advising Dean.

I see advising as engaging students as whole persons—listening, guiding, and empowering them. Grounded in inclusion, I meet students where they are, beginning each conversation with, “How can I be most helpful to you today?” My goal is to clarify complex academic requirements, support informed decision-making, and help students flourish as they navigate the College’s liberal arts curriculum and the course of life beyond college.

Outside the office, I enjoy watching sports (especially soccer) and spending time with my artistic wife and our three adult children.
