As an advisor, my goal is to help students navigate a large research university as they develop a sense of agency and belonging in relation to their education at UVA. Each student begins their time at UVA with unique experiences and perspectives; I enjoy learning from students and helping students creatively draw on these experiences to find their place at UVA and craft educational goals that match their values. While drawing from past experiences is important, I also encourage students to explore new things, ask large questions, and embrace the often-unexpected outcomes of a liberal arts education. College is a transformational time and I encourage students to cultivate an openness to the many surprising possibilities and paths to a flourishing life they will encounter. I have nearly a decade of experience at UVA. I completed my PhD in UVA’s Department of Religious Studies and have taught on various topics of religion, ethics, and politics. Before working as an Advising Fellow, I gained valuable experience teaching in both Summer Transition Programs and UVA’s Engagements Program.
