Headshot of Caleb Hendrickson

I have been part of the UVA community for the past ten years, first as a doctoral student in Religious Studies then as an instructor and Advising Fellow. I have also taught religious studies and advised undergraduate students at Carleton College in Minnesota. In my own experience as a research scholar, I have learned that knowledge is something discovered, met with curiosity and surprise. I understand discovery to be the goal of a great liberal arts education and approach advising with this goal in mind. It is a privilege to accompany students as they encounter the challenges and excitements of college learning, and in the process discover something about who they are. I greatly enjoy discovering the interests, talents, and gifts that each student brings to UVA. It is a pleasure to get to know students through individual advising and through the Engagements seminars that I regularly teach, including a course on contemporary image culture (Living with Images) and a course concerning the importance of play in human development and culture (The Way We Play).
