Enrollment Override Form - Form and Instructions
This form opens on August 11, 2026 by 4:00 PM. You must login to Airtable before you can submit the form.
The deadline for this form for a Fall 2026 course is 11:59pm on September 8, 2026. Forms which have not received required approvals from instructors and departments/schools by the deadline will be cancelled.
Arts & Sciences students can use this form to request to enroll in a course with the following overrides. Each override requires time and additional approvals before it can be processed, so you should only request overrides that are actually needed for your intended enrollment.
The College will not override a closed class or place students on a wait list. The requested course must have available seats at the time we attempt to process your request, regardless of what seats were originally available.

Enroll in more than 18 credits
This requires the approval of your Advising Dean, and you must also meet all of the following criteria:
- Currently have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher
- Earned a GPA of 3.25 or higher in the previous semester
- Earned at least 15 credits or studied abroad in the previous semester
- Completed at least one full-time Fall or Spring semester at UVA
If you do not meet all of these criteria, you must contact your Advising Dean first.
If the course requires instructor permission and you are not requesting any other overrides, you must request and receive instructor permission in SIS, then attach a screenshot of the SIS email that confirms unexpired permission when you complete the form.
Override a time conflict
This requires the approval of the instructors of both conflicting courses, your Advising Dean, and the College's Time Conflict Committee.
Before you submit this request, work with the instructors of both conflicting courses to develop a plan for resolving the conflict and addressing any missed work. Let both instructors know that you are submitting this request and to expect an email for approval.
Your plan must not include any of the following:
- Overlaps between lecture, lab, or discussion sections is not permitted. Overlapping between a test section and a regular class meeting is permitted if the test is rescheduled and the regular class meeting is not missed.
- Attending or participating in a section in which you are not enrolled is not permitted.
- Missing any amount of a world language course is not permitted.
If approved, your continued enrollment requires your adherence to the plan you describe in the request, and you must still meet the requirements of all courses in which you are enrolled, per each syllabus.
Enroll in a graduate-level course
Enrolling in a course numbered 6000 or above requires the approval of the course instructor, the department or school that offers the course, and your Advising Dean. Discuss your request with the instructor first and confirm the correct contact information for the department/school approver before submitting the form.
Audit a course
You can request to enroll in a new course under the Audit grading basis, or to change an existing enrollment to the Audit basis. This requires the instructor's approval.
Courses taken under the Audit basis count against your credit limit for the semester, but do not count toward the minimum number of credits you must earn in the semester to remain in good standing. Additionally, Audited courses cannot satisfy any requirements for your major, minor, general education, or graduation.
